Mirissa Water Sports was founded with the goal of creating employment opportunities for young people in coastal areas where jobs are scarce, especially after the devastating 2004 tsunami. This inspiring initiative was launched by the Building A Future Foundation, established by Mr. Pierre Pringiers, Honorary Consul of Belgium to Sri Lanka, and Dr. Tissa Jinasena of the Jinasena Group of Companies. The Foundation focuses on introducing new ideas, technology, and training to empower youth from tsunami-affected regions and help them build sustainable livelihoods. Mirissa Water Sports is proud to be the first success story of this foundation beginning with just ten young crew members and growing into a thriving marine adventure center.
